Is it ADHD or Inflammation? Auditing the Cellular Motherboard | Ep. 123

The Cellular Motherboard: Why Your Grandchild’s "Behavior" Might Be a Hardware Glitch

By Laura Brazan

I have a confession to make: I’ve been buying canola oil for years. I thought I was making a healthy, budget-conscious choice for my family. But after sitting down with Dr. Jeffrey Knight, an expert in natural health and cellular healing, I realized that while I’ve been working so hard to heal my grandchildren’s hearts, I might accidentally be adding layers of inflammation to their nervous systems.

We often talk about "Connection before Correction" and healing the psychological wounds of the past. But what if the "behavioral issues" we are seeing—the hyperactivity, the lack of focus, and the constant defiance—aren't just emotional?

What if the glitch isn't in the mind, but in the body’s hardware?

The Sympathetic Trap

Dr. Knight explained a concept that every kinship caregiver needs to understand: Sympathetic Dominance. When a child's body is burdened by toxins—whether it's heavy metals, synthetic food dyes, or hidden mold—their nervous system gets stuck in "Fight or Flight" mode.

To a child in this state, the world feels dangerous. Their body is biologically convinced it is running from a tiger 24/7. When the hardware is on fire, the "software" of therapy and discipline simply can't run. Digestion slows down (leading to chronic constipation), sleep becomes shallow, and aggression becomes a survival mechanism.

Auditing the Pantry: The Seed Oil Exchange

One of the most immediate "Executive Actions" you can take as the CEO of your home is a pantry audit. Dr. Knight highlighted seed oils (canola, soybean, vegetable oil) as highly processed, inflammatory triggers.

"It’s not about giving up your lifestyle," Dr. Knight explains. "It’s about an exchange." By swapping inflammatory oils for "Mother Nature’s oils"—real butter, olive oil, coconut oil, or avocado oil—you begin to lower the systemic noise in your grandchild's body.

Opening the "Drainage Funnel"

Before we can talk about "detox," we have to talk about drainage. Dr. Knight uses the analogy of a funnel: if the bottom is plugged, the top will overflow.

The body naturally drains waste through the liver, kidneys, and colon. If your grandchild is constipated or dehydrated, their "funnel" is closed, and toxins are recirculating in their system.

  • Tactical Move: Incorporate "Liver-Loving" foods like apples (malic acid), beets, and citrus to help keep those downstream pathways open.

The "Multiple Victim" Rule for Mold

Many kinship families live in older homes or have moved frequently. Dr. Knight shared a critical diagnostic tool: If more than one person under your roof is feeling lethargic, foggy, or suffering from chronic headaches, check for mold.

Mold is a biological hijacker. It causes "brain fog" that mimics ADHD and "lethargy" that mimics depression. As the Invisible CEO, auditing your environment for mold is just as important as auditing the school curriculum.

The Toolbox: Tactical Moves

  • The "One Exchange" Rule: Swap out your cooking oil this week. Move from canola to real butter or olive oil.

  • The Dye Audit: Check labels for Red 40 or Yellow 5. These synthetic dyes are known neurological irritants for sensitive children.

  • The CBC Request: At your next doctor’s visit, ask for a "CBC with Differentiation." This simple blood test can give clues about hidden infections or allergic burdens that are taxating the child's system.

Remember: Your grandchild isn't a "bad kid"—they might just be a burdened kid. By cleaning up the hardware, we give their heart a fighting chance to heal.

Keep nurturing, keep leading, and I’ll see you in the next boardroom.
