Turning Shared Experience into a Roadmap for Resilience
I'm Laura Brazan and I know what it’s like to stand in your shoes. Whether you became a kinship caregiver overnight or after a long period of uncertainty, the transition from "Grandparent" to "Primary Parent" is one of the most courageous shifts a person can make. But courage doesn't mean you have all the answers—especially when navigating the complexities of childhood trauma and the "hidden" grief of family displacement.
My Mission
I founded this organization and the podcast to ensure that no grandparent raising grandchildren has to figure it out alone. My goal is to equip families with the emotional literacy and trauma-informed tools necessary to move from a state of crisis to a state of connection.
What I Believe
Healing isn't just about managing behavior; it’s about understanding the heart. I advocate for a three-pillar approach to family resilience:
Emotional Intelligence: Teaching children (and caregivers) how to name, process, and regulate big emotions.
Trauma-Informed Care: Shifting the lens from "discipline" to "connection" to help children feel safe enough to grow.
Sustainable Advocacy: Providing the practical resources—legal, financial, and community-based—that allow relative providers to stay the course.
You Are Not Alone
The journey of a kinship provider is unique, but you belong to a growing community of resilient families. Together, we can break cycles of trauma and build homes rooted in stability and deep emotional health.
